The Blu-Ray and HD DVD Format War

by Roger Lewis Austin Jetters Brian Engle Albert Kaussman Robert Jenkins

For one’s high definition needs, Blu-ray is the way to go. This type of disc is the only type of HD disc available. Prior to Blu-ray’s monopoly, a separate entity existed which challenged Blu-ray and almost won.

HD DVD was a disc format developed by Toshiba. It competed with Sony from about 2002 to 2008. For a long time, it was uncertain about which format would win.

This uncertainty was caused by the fact that major distributors and producers offered both mutual and exclusive support to HD DVD or Blu-ray. The industry market share was cut almost right down the middle.

Riddles and indirect-thinking

by Alex Gensker

Some riddles are a form of indirect-thinking question. To answer them, you have to move laterally in your mind, away from the expected guesses. This is especially true of funny riddles. What did the others do when the cannibal was late for dinner? They gave him the cold shoulder, of course.

Then there are the riddles that aren’t really jokes, but they make you laugh when you hear the answer. If an airplane crashes on the border of the U.S. and Canada, in which country do they bury the survivors? They don’t bury survivors, of course. Laughter is good for the brain. Okay, I am waiting for the research on that, but it will be proven someday.
